Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral – A PEFC-Certified Project

On 15th April 2019, the world watched in horror as a devastating fire raged through the world-famous, Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris. The medieval frames of the nave and choir, built in the 13th century and the 19th century Viollet-le-Duc spire and transept, were destroyed. However, a little over five years on from the devastating blaze, PEFC France proudly presented a PEFC Certified Project certificate to public establishment Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris, the contracting authority for the restoration project.

This certification confirms the sustainable origin of the solid oak wood materials used, and the responsible nature of the work carried out.

Across France, the forestry and timber industries worked together to ensure that a sustainable forest management approach is followed at every stage of the restoration, in order to maintain the balance between the economic, social and environmental dimensions of the forest.
