European Commission publishes new EUDR guidance and simplifications

The European Commission has released new guidance and additional measures to support companies in implementing the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The aim of these materials is to make compliance clearer, more consistent, and more practical for all stakeholders.

Clearer guidance for companies

The published documents provide additional clarity on how to interpret EUDR requirements, with a focus on:

  • the practical implementation of due diligence
  • roles and responsibilities across the supply chain
  • ensuring a consistent interpretation of requirements across EU Member States

The objective is to reduce uncertainty and support companies in applying the regulation in a consistent and effective way.

Additional simplifications

According to the press release, there is also a strong focus on reducing administrative burden. This includes:

  • simplifying certain reporting and documentation processes
  • clarifying how existing systems and data can be used
  • providing additional guidance materials to support companies

These updates are particularly relevant for companies operating in complex international supply chains.

Practical tools and support

The European Commission has also introduced several practical tools to facilitate implementation:

  • guidance documents and FAQs
  • visual explanations of supply chains
  • technical support for using the EUDR information system

These resources are designed to support both companies and competent authorities, ensuring a harmonised approach across the EU.

Key deadlines
The implementation of EUDR will take place gradually:

  • 30 December 2026 – large and medium companies, as well as micro and small enterprises in the timber sector
  • 30 June 2027 – micro and small enterprises

Although the implementation timeline provides additional time, the European Commission emphasises that companies should continue preparing now.

Key steps include:

  • mapping supply chains
  • assessing risks
  • collecting and managing relevant data
